Unc’s Pizza is the new neighborhood pie on Griswold

1133 Griswold St. · opened Tuesday, Aug. 11 · 4 p.m.–midnight tonight

The Dime Store owners and Mootz’s Tony Sacco opened a Detroit-style pizzeria in the historic Detroit & Northern building, next to Prime + Proper. Chefs Andrew Shedden and Josh Taylor run a 7,300-square-foot room with 80 indoor seats and a 50-seat patio. Red or white pies, plus the usual sticks, wings, and tenders. Sunday–Thursday 4–11 p.m.; Friday–Saturday 4 p.m.–midnight.

This first edition is thin and local-paper led. Downtown just gained a Detroit-style pizzeria and, as of Friday’s Crain’s roundup, a third Joe Louis Southern Kitchen. Sunday was a two-festival day. Eater has no Detroit vertical.

Joe Louis Southern Kitchen, now on Woodward

Crain’s restaurant roundup Friday says the third Joe Louis Southern Kitchen is now open downtown in the 1916 United Foundation Building. DBusiness, writing when the project still aimed at Tigers Opening Day, put it at Bedrock’s 1528 Woodward, about 4,000 square feet and 80 seats, with the brand’s first full bar and late hours on game nights. The April 3 target slipped; Crain’s is the open confirmation. This photograph is from the December 2025 DBusiness announcement, not a new downtown shoot.
