No independent dining festival overtook the fairgrounds this weekend. IPM’s preview still stands: new foods, a $5 value menu, Hot Diggity Dog Games, and Trace Adkins on Sunday. Downtown, Protein Bar is three weeks old; on Mass Ave, Black Chefs Collective takes a rooftop tonight.

IndyStar’s August desk is openings, not pop-ups: Mamacita in November, Hawaiian Bros still “slated for August,” Varsity Social Club aiming at September. There is no Eater Indianapolis. The fair’s second weekend and a rooftop bourbon dinner were the sourced weekend.

The 169th fair is already open: nearly 50 new foods, a $5 value menu, and a “Hot Diggity Dog Games” weekend with the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile today and Sunday. Black Chefs Collective’s second annual rooftop: six to eight minority chefs, bourbon-paired plates, a door cocktail, a signature bourbon drink, live music. WISH-TV posted the ticket list this week.

Chicago high-protein bowls, wraps, salads, and shakes — first Indiana shop, first franchise outside Illinois. About 40 seats. Hours IndyStar listed: 7 a.m.–7 p.m. weekdays, 9–5 Saturday, 10–4 Sunday. More area shops are “in the works.”

The Daily Journal (Aug. 6) dated a Saturday community-meal soft open and a Monday public opening — that Saturday was Aug. 8, already past. Bowls, pitas, dips; 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; a pick-up-by-car lane. Donations that weekend went to Pack Away Hunger.
