A roasted turkey leg on a steel platter at Uncle Red’s, topped with chopped herbs

The Flyer · Broad Avenue

Uncle Red’s turkey legs, one year in

2583 Broad Ave. · not a new opening · Flyer, week of Aug. 6

This brief is thin on brand-new rooms, so the liveliest local dining clip is Michael Donahue’s anniversary piece: Christopher “FreeSol” Anderson and Thomas Brownlee’s sit-down turkey-leg shop — stuffed legs, smoked wings, beignets, a real bar. Hip Hop & R&B Bingo is 3–7 p.m. every third Sunday, which is this Sunday, Aug. 16. R&B Patio Wednesdays are weekly.

A thin first edition. The Commercial Appeal’s August dining page is a four-restaurant “try these” column, not an openings map. The Flyer is on an anniversary and a September festival. The one hard coming date is a riverfront seafood room aimed at Sept. 1. No Eater Memphis.

Commercial Appeal dining URLs returned 402 on a direct fetch; the April openings list and the Aug. 4 recommendations column were read via WebFetch. I Love Memphis’s new-restaurants page Cloudflare-challenged. Memphis Business Journal’s Walt & Ricky’s Sept. 1 item is paywalled; Downtown Memphis Commission filings say a September 2026 target. Aggregator listings for a Bumpus rib contest and FoodieLand were left out. Eater has no Memphis vertical.

Tufted banquettes and floral panels in the Josephine Estelle dining room

Openings · Germantown · July 1

Josephine Estelle and Rosie’s Tavern

6695 Poplar Ave., The Standard Germantown

Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman’s first new local rooms in about six years: Italian-American downstairs (110 seats, house breads, fried ravioli with a Hudman-grandmother gravy), cocktail tavern upstairs. Named for their daughters; Rosie’s for partner Benjamin Orgel’s. NRN dated the open July 1. FSR lists Josephine Estelle 5–9:30 p.m. Tue–Thu and Sun, 5–10 Fri–Sat, closed Monday; Rosie’s from 4 p.m. Resy. Brunch “in the coming weeks” as of that release — this desk did not find a later brunch confirmation.

Walt & Ricky’s Seafood Kitchen

1 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. · former Fancy’s · targeted September

Mowbray Rowand (Esco, Fat Tuesday) on the riverfront. DMC filings: seafood, oysters, steaks, cocktails, daytime hours by Tom Lee Park, 10-year lease from April 1. Application target opening: September 2026. Memphis Business Journal’s July 17 headline said Sept. 1; that article is paywalled here. The bun stamp in this WhatNow photograph reads “Wally,” the filings say Walt — the name is Walt & Ricky’s in the city paperwork.

Hip Hop & R&B Bingo at Uncle Red’s

Sun., Aug. 16, 3–7 p.m. · 2583 Broad Ave.

The Flyer’s only dated weekend food event this desk could pin: third Sunday of the month. Anderson told Donahue they may comp a meal or a drink when someone hits bingo. Not a festival. If you need a reservation-looking Saturday, the papers did not publish one.

Memphis Listening Lab

Flyer music piece on Cooper-Young Fest also dates The Narrows’ album Chris listening session here, then a release show / fundraiser at Growler’s on Sat., Aug. 29. Music, not a dinner — on the calendar because the Flyer tied it to the September food-and-music street fest.
